Janette Marshall, Alto

Born: and raised in SLC along with my 6 brothers and 4 sisters... I am mother to 6 daughters and 4 sons; I like that symmetry and my life with them, and my adorable husband Stephen Marshall. We have 2 double adorable grandsons who come by way of the 2 adored in law children I have recently acquired. Oops! I now have 7 sons, and 5 daughters.
Fave childhood memory: Running around Arches, Capital Reef; Goblin Valley and Lake Powell with parents Maynard and Nonie and my best pals, Ramona, Scott, Kent, Howard, Barbara, Cynthia, Georgia, Doug, Dan, and Vic.
Musical background: studied piano with Lennox Larson, Reid Nibley, and Gladys Gladstone; and 6 months in Austria with a professor at the Mozarteum. Graduated from the U of U in Piano; also sang in the A cappella and Chamber Choirs while there. I thought my practicing days were over, till I started in with my kids; I then found I had to at least triple the hours per day that I had practiced when I was solo.
Profession: need I say more?
I've been happily singing in the Utah Chamber Artists since the beginning -- 1991. The musicians therein are some of my favorite people.
Favorite UCA repetoire: Barlow Bradford's Christmas arrangements and his Five Sacred Songs; Robert Cundick's Christmas Eve at Sea and The Westwind; Welcome All Wonders by JAC Redford
Favorite UCA memory: It's a tie: singing with the Pontnewydd Male Choir in Wales; and singing the Sunday Mass in Notre Dame, in Paris -- June 2008. Singing anytime in Libby. The memory that eclipses all is the chance to sing under the baton of superb musician and friend, Barlow Bradford; and share the experience with my oldest son Richard, who has dedicated many practice hours as pianist for the Chamber Artists, a labor of love for both of us.
Hobbies: Dating Stephen; playing Bach and Rachmaninov; brazilian dancing; cross country skiing; friends; good conversation; singing my mother's music; crocheting; reading; accumulating sky miles through grocery shopping and using them; reading about my grandparents; learning about the world through my children's eyes.
Accomplishment of which you are proud: in addition to my family which is my fave, I loved performing Rachmaninov's Rhapsodie on a Theme of Paganini with the U of U Philharmonic and touring with them.
Dream Vacation: Switzerland and Austria; the Islands of Hawaii; Madeira; Greece; France; places that have become dear because of my children's lives in them.
If you lived somewhere else, where would it be: if I lived anywhere else it would be in the magnificent Red Rocks of Southern Utah;
Where would you spend a year: I'd spend a year in New Zealand;
Where would you spend a day: I'd spend a day anywhere any of my children are going.
